Hacks/Hackers is a digital community of people who seek to inspire each other, share information (and code) and collaborate to invent the future of media and journalism.

        Hacks/Hackers Meetup on Gawker Rooftop.
Since 2005, my blog is the sandbox where I’m trying new ways to product and publish rich mutimedia stuff. And if there’s one thing that I’v learned, is that innovation comes always by experimenting, serendipity and lots of fun.

By the time, it became obvious to me (full disclosure) that the “freaky guys of the IT dept.” and “the selfish morons in the newsroom” had many things in common, even if they don’t speak the same language.

They’r all dreaming of a better world. Better news, better navigation, better fact-checking, better look & feel, better interactivity … better everything. It’s a matter of survive. Isn’t ?

Journalists sometimes call themselves “hacks,” a tongue-in-cheek term for someone who can churn out words in any situation. Hackers use the digital equivalent of duct tape to whip out code. Hacks/Hackers tries to bridge those two worlds.

Grassroots of the web is collaboration. So is the future of News. Listening to the people formerly known as the audience, building apps to help them make their own opinions, livecovering world hardnews or telling them endless stories … every kind of works how deeply needs journalists and developers talk to each others, share passion & tips, for a better user experience (and, yes, to pay the bills)

<img class=" " style="margin-top: 4px; margin-bottom: 4px; border: 1px solid black;" title="KQED" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4022/4651072075_2d99e1d07a.jpg" alt="Hacks/Hackers at KQED.

So, when Burt Herman told me a couple months ago about meetups dedicated to make journalists and developers crossing their roads and “fly high”, laptop on the knees, a smartphone in one hand and a beer in the other, I said “I Like That !”

See what Hacks/Hackers chapters have already done in New York (with Facebook), in San Francisco (with Google) in Chicago, Austin, Toronto, etc. Pretty exciting, hu ?

You’r a fanatic Drupal/Wordpress developper ? Radio/TV News Chief editor ? Freelance Designer ? Harcdcore visual app maker ? Student in journalism ? HTML 5 gourou ? Data compulsive digger ? Killer webdocumentalist ? Serial Graphist ? Sleeping cell of the new order of The CSS Empire ?

So, Let’s meet, having a chat, a good glass of wine …. and see what happen !
